Post-Install Inspections

Verifying Performance, Compliance, and Safety After the Build

A project isn’t truly complete until it’s been tested, documented, and verified against the standards it was designed to meet. At Model Energy, our post-install inspections provide independent, licensed confirmation that your build is code-compliant, structurally sound, and ready for long-term operation, whether it’s a solar array, an energy storage system, EV charging infrastructure, or another renewable installation.

We treat every inspection as an engineer-led validation, not just a checklist walkthrough. That means measuring actual performance against design intent, confirming that installation methods match the approved plan set, and documenting any discrepancies before they lead to warranty disputes, failed inspections, or operational downtime.

Because we work across multiple renewable disciplines, we understand the nuances of different technologies and the priorities of every stakeholder from installers and developers to utilities, lenders, and property owners. Our job is to protect your investment by providing a clear, licensed record of how the system was built, how it’s performing, and what—if anything—needs attention.

What Our Post-Install Inspections Include

While every inspection is customized to the project’s type, size, and jurisdiction, our standard scope includes:

Structural verification

On the structural side, we confirm that racking, roof penetrations, and
mounting methods align with stamped structural drawings, manufacturer guidelines, and site conditions.

Electrical testing & review

Electrically, we verify conductor sizes, terminations, overcurrent
protection, labeling, voltage drop, and NEC rapid shutdown compliance.

Mechanical system review

Mechanically, we check torque settings, grounding and bonding integrity, and mechanical fastening to confirm durability over the system’s lifetime.

Code and permit compliance

We compare the installed system to the approved plan set and confirm compliance with NEC, IBC, and all relevant local amendments.

Performance validation

Using real-time data and environmental adjustments, we compare system output to modeled expectations, ensuring it’s performing as engineered.

Documentation & reporting

Every inspection concludes with a photo-rich report that includes
pass/fail notes, recommendations, and prioritized next steps for any deficiencies found.

Why Third-Party Engineering Inspections Matter

Relying solely on the installer’s internal QA or a basic AHJ inspection can leave gaps that may cost you later.

Model Energy brings the perspective of a licensed professional engineer to your final sign-off, closing those gaps and providing documentation that builds confidence with owners, financiers, insurers, and utilities. This independent verification can also help satisfy lender requirements, rebate programs, and performance guarantees.

AHJ limitations:

Most jurisdictions focus more on code compliance rather than whether the system truly matches the engineered design or achieves its expected performance.

Installer bias:

Internal QA is valuable, but it isn’t independent and may overlook issues that could trigger disputes or performance problems down the road.

When to Call Us

Post-install inspections are valuable at multiple stages:

Immediately after construction

Verify compliance before releasing final payment or completing utility interconnection.

Prior to project closeout

Document system condition and readiness for long-term operation.

Before ownership transfer or sale

Provide a baseline record of system health for buyers, investors, or portfolio managers.

After warranty repairs or upgrades

Confirm that corrective work meets engineering and code requirements before signing off.

Licensed Where It Counts

We perform post-install inspections in more than 20 states and territories, including regions with some of the most demanding inspection requirements such as Massachusetts, Virginia, Colorado, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.

Our licensure means we can evaluate projects across diverse climates, utility requirements, and code interpretations. For developers and asset managers working in multiple jurisdictions, it also means fewer headaches with one trusted partner to provide consistent, licensed inspection services wherever your projects are built.

Proof Your Project Is Built Right

A quality installation doesn’t stop when the crews leave the site—it’s proven when the system passes a thorough, independent, engineering-led inspection. Model Energy’s post-install inspections verify that your project is safe, compliant, and performing as designed.

Whether you’re satisfying an AHJ, meeting lender requirements, or enforcing your own quality benchmarks, we deliver the licensed documentation that protects both your investment and your reputation.
